New Years Resolution...Dig Tunnel to GameStop

Thought this story was worth a laugh...in the spirit of The Shawshank Redemption and South-of-the-Border drug lords, 33 year old Steven Archer of Chuckey, TN set out on January 4 to dig a tunnel to gain access to his local GameStop. He was subsequently arrested for stealing $5,300 in games annd $300 in cash. Read the story here.

In other, much more exciting news, High Scores is the official location for the first ever CAGDC Donald Hayes Challenge. For those in our audience who are unaware, Donald is a premier classic gamer having recorded world records in a crazy amount of games - check out his stats here. As in before, Mark Alpiger of Classic Arcade Gaming Dot Com - and King of Kong fame (Donald, too!) will be running the event, scheduled for March 5-6, 2011. I'll be doing a more comprehensive post in the days to come but please follow the links to the official contest page for the most up to date info!

Look forward to welcoming participants and spectators alike!

The competition that will never die! Hank Chien stole back his world record on Donkey Kong with a score of 1,068,000. We remember Hank when he was still playing on MAME - he's a great guy and High Scores congratulates him on a great game!

All three world-record holders (Hank, Billy, and Steve) plus a handful of truly extraordinary DK players will be battling it out live for the world record at Richie Knucklez Arcade in Flemington, NJ on March 19-20, 2011. Check it out here!

Real-Life Frogger Turns Bad

A 23-year-old in Clemson, S.C., was recently hospitalized because he was hit by an SUV attempting to play a real-life version of Frogger, a la Seinfeld. Click here to read the story.

I find this to be an unbelievable news story, but not because he got hit. What I want to know is, who are these 23 year olds who like Frogger? We see a lot of early 20 somethings walk through the door begging for directions to the Tekken and Street Fighter machines - to date, I've never seen one jonesing for a game of Frogger, or any classic game for that matter. They don't know what they're missing!
